Our Commitment
TownshipWorks is committed to ensuring that our platform is accessible to all users, including people with disabilities. We believe that every citizen should be able to access government services online regardless of their abilities or the technology they use.
We are actively working to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA standards and to continuously improve the accessibility of our platform.
Standards We Target
TownshipWorks aims to conform to WCAG 2.1 Level AA. This includes guidelines across four principles:
- Perceivable — Information and UI components are presentable in ways all users can perceive
- Operable — UI components and navigation are operable via keyboard and assistive technology
- Understandable — Information and operation of the UI is understandable
- Robust — Content is robust enough to be interpreted by a wide variety of assistive technologies
What We've Done
- Semantic HTML elements are used throughout the platform to support screen readers
- All form inputs include associated labels
- Color contrast ratios meet or exceed WCAG 2.1 AA minimums
- Interactive elements are keyboard accessible and include visible focus indicators
- Images include descriptive alt text
- Pages use logical heading hierarchy (H1 → H2 → H3)
- The platform is designed to be usable at up to 200% browser zoom without loss of content or functionality
Known Limitations
While we strive for full accessibility, some areas of the platform are still being improved. Known limitations include:
- Some dynamically generated PDF documents may not be fully accessible to screen readers
- Third-party components (such as the Stripe payment widget) are subject to their own accessibility implementations
- Some complex data tables may not yet include full ARIA markup
We are actively working to address these limitations in upcoming releases.
